Foundation Prerequisite Information

Action Dogs is a Specialist Agility Training Club. We aim to equip dogs and handlers with the skills to compete in both ANKC and NADAC Agility successfully and safely.  We are constantly reviewing our training methods using the best available resources from both local and overseas instructors, DVDs and publications. Our training plans are structured to progress through the levels adding to basic skills already taught and of course to have as much fun as possible on the way!!!

As our training plans are structured towards obtaining behaviours and handling skills for Agility, we require certain pre-requisite skills from our dog / handler teams.

These skills include (but are not limited to):

·         Good Recall ( with food / training aids etc)

·         Good Stay ( can be sit or stand)

·         Good Focus on handler (on command)

·         Friendly to other dogs and people (no aggression)

·         Play behaviours – e.g tug, retrieval

·         Ability to teach (handler) / learn (dog) new behaviours/ tricks

Note: Dog must be a minimum of 10 months of age at the time of assessment.

As places are limited, we will be conducting an assessment night for all potential foundation class members commencing at 7:00 pm. The skills mentioned above will be tested. Possible “tricks” to teach your dog for this assessment could include (but are not limited to):

·         Begging

·         Waving

·         Shaking Paws

·         Getting into a box

We will select 10 people with the best skills to commence training in Foundation.

If you are unsuccessful, you are welcome to attend another assessment night for Foundation classes next year.

I wish you the very best of luck.

Regards

Sue Gonelli - Head Instructor
